While the slowed economy has affected every sector of business, Newhall Klein has successfully navigated the economic challenges of the last year and is managing to weather the storm.
While Newhall Klein expected and indeed experienced fewer projects, longer launch dates, and some budget slashing with a few of our client partners, we are pleased to be in a position where we have had to hire additional staff to address an increase of 30% in new business during the last year.

In contrast to Newhall Klein’s results, research shows that over the last year, advertising and marketing initiatives, new product launches, expansions and innovations have been cancelled or postponed given the recent economic pressure on businesses.
Here are just a few highlights from a recent survey of the creative industry, conducted by Creative Business.
Agency Revenue
- 54% of agencies reported a decline in revenue compared to a year ago.
*Note: These figures do not include data from the numerous agencies that have closed.
Projects on Hold or Extended
- 72% of agencies reported an increase in projects placed on hold or stretched out over a longer period of time.
Staffing
- 60% of multi-person agencies reduced staffing over a year ago and the percentage is only slightly lower for the last six months.
Clients are being asked to reduce spending and agencies are experiencing reduced budgets, delayed projects and extended payments. Consequently, both clients and agencies are sharing in the balancing act between reducing costs and investing in marketing initiatives to grow their business.
